If you are currently eating a standard American diet, more than likely you have a difficult time keeping your weight under control. This type of a diet is not only full of fast foods, in many cases it is full of different types of junk foods. These are not only sugary type of snacks that we may be grabbing regularly but it also includes other types of junk foods, such as potato chips and prepackaged snacks that we grab on the run. Many of us use these forms of junk food in order to make up the bulk of our daily diet. Exactly how bad are these things for us?

The first thing that you need to understand in order to determine if junk food is bad for you is to figure out exactly what it does to your body. Something that we are going to discuss here is the effect that most of the junk food that you eat is going to have on your blood sugar level. Whenever you eat something that is either high in sugar content or is the type of carbohydrate to get absorbed quickly, it is going to make your sugar spike. Have you ever noticed that you feel lethargic after eating a lot of this junk food? That is a contributing factor, but it is not the only factor that you need to think about.

The body is truly an amazing thing and whenever sugar is released into the bloodstream, the body will produce insulin through the pancreas which is designed to take care of that sugar. The problem is, much of the junk food that you eat is going to spike your sugar so high that it is going to cause too much insulin to be produced. It is this insulin that is what is going to cause you to feel lethargic, not the sugar that you are eating. There is another problem that this process is causing, however, that affects your health much longer than the short-term lethargic feeling.

When you have so much sugar in your blood stream that the insulin is unable to assimilate it, there is going to be a major problem. The sugar cannot simply remain in your blood stream for the long term, so the insulin is going to grab it and store it until it can get back to take care of it later. The way that it stores the sugar is in the form of fat and unfortunately, very few of us ever give the insulin the opportunity to get back to it and take care of it. That is the reason that junk food is so bad for you.

If you are eating junk food regularly, you are not doing your body any favors. By simply cutting out junk food from your diet and eating more raw fruits and vegetables in its place, you will not only feel better, you will begin to look better very quickly.
