Calories In White Wine – How Many Are You Really Getting?

If you’re a frequent wine connoisseur, you should be taking the time to learn the calories in white wine so you can be sure it is fitting in with your diet aimed to help you lose belly fat quickly.

Alcohol calories will add up quickly because at seven calories per gram, they have more total calories than either protein or carbohydrate rich foods, which come in at only four calories per gram.   In addition to the calories in the actual alcohol, if you’re choosing to drink mixed or fancy cocktail type of blended beverages, your calorie intake will shoot up even higher as very often the mixes contain more calories than the alcohol itself.

Fortunately wine you drink straight by itself so you don’t have to worry about mixed in calories, however there are still calories in white wine that you need to add to your diet.

If you further find that after a few glasses of wine you’re more likely to indulge in foods that aren’t a part of your diet because your inhibitions are down, that too can prove to be quite the problem if you hope to be successful at losing stomach fat.

Calories In White Wine – Dry

If you’re going to be drinking a dry white wine such as Chablis, Hock, or Reisling, you’ll be taking in 120 calories per 5 oz glass.  Keep in mind that some wine glasses hold much more than just 5 oz, so that’s something also you have to factor in.

If you use particularly large wine glasses and they hold up to 8 oz, that calorie count per glass is going to be significantly different, much closer to the 200 calorie mark.

This type of wine also provides you with 5.5 grams of carbohydrates as well, which isn’t significantly high but if you’re closely tracking carbohydrate count, it is enough that you should be adding it to your day.

Calories In White Wine – Sweet

If on the other hand you’re choosing to drink sweet white wine such as Moselle, Sauterne, or Zinfandel, then you’re going to be looking at slightly more calories at about 138 calories per same 5 oz serving.  Again note the impact wine glass size will have on this calorie count, so factor that into your diet as well.

The sweet white wine also contains slightly more carbohydrates at 8.6 grams per 5 oz, so that should also be accounted for.

So whether you choose to indulge in alcohol or not, it’s true that the calories in white wine will add up and if you don’t factor them into your day, it will impact your progress on your weight loss program.  If you’re someone who is regularly engaging in resistance training and cardiovascular workouts to help increase your metabolism and burn more calories on a daily basis you may be able to afford the calories in white wine slightly easier and not see much of an impact on your fat loss.

It is an individual decision you must make – one glass of white wine every now and then should be fine on an otherwise healthy, well thought out program, but if it’s a daily occurrence, that’s a whole other story.
