Exercise & Motivation – Keeping The Balance
There are plenty of us that could stand to lose a few pounds and most of us realize that getting some exercise is going to help us do that. Even if we consider ourselves to be a fairly healthy weight, exercise is still something that can positively affect our lives in many different ways.

The difficult part about it, however, is staying motivated enough to stick with it for the long term. How is it that people who are long time exercisers stick with it without giving up?
Some of the people that exercise on a regular basis are simply self-motivated and self-starters. They put their mind to something and then they stick with it for the long term. Most of the people, however, that seem to stick with exercise for a long time have to have other forms of motivation in order to keep them going. Here are some of the more popular ways that they stay motivated, some of which will probably work for you as well. If you find that you are having a difficult time sticking with exercise, this article is for you.
One of the best motivators for exercise is the changes that are going to take place in your body. Regardless of whether you’re working out at a gym or if you’re working out at home, whenever you start to see positive changes taking place in your life that can be extremely motivating. The difficult part about this is that it often takes several weeks or perhaps a month or more to see real results that are tangible – like losing stomach fat. Until that time, it can be difficult to stay motivated enough to stick with it.
There are plenty of tips and tricks for staying motivated. At one time, I had a difficult time sticking with it for the long term as well. I found that by working out in a public area, such as a gym, I was able to stay motivated more. Why is that? First of all, I was around people who enjoyed exercising and I was able to see the differences that it made in them. Secondly, it does not take long whenever you are in an environment like this to begin to know people that are also working out with you. This is especially true if you tend to keep the same schedule. Many of these people will give you encouragement to keep going and will also be able to give you pointers to make more out of your workout.
If you’re unable to go to a gym in order to work out or if you just are a little bit shy and would rather work out alone, set small goals for yourself. Write these goals down on sticky notes and put them next to the area that you tend to be in. For example, if you want to lose 20 pounds and you work on the computer, put a sticky note on your computer that says I will lose 20 pounds. It may sound a little bit silly but you would be surprised at how motivating these little notes can be.
