Post Workout Nutrition – You Gotta Know This Stuff
I’m sure that you have probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you work out regularly, however, you might be surprised to learn that the post-workout meal may just be more important. The reason why this is the case is because you have just broken down your body to a certain degree and you want to make sure that you get the proper type of nutrition back into it quickly. Doing so effectively will help to shorten your recovery time and to give your body the energy that it needs in order to rebuild the stores that used whenever you were working out.

There are two different things that you should keep in mind whenever it comes to post workout nutrition. First of all, you should be eating proteins and carbohydrates in the meal after you end your workout but you should avoid fats if at all possible. I don’t want you to misunderstand this as my saying that you should always be avoiding fats because your body needs fat for a number of different reasons. As a matter of fact, there are some healthy types of fats that can actually help you to burn belly fat off of your body and make you stronger. The meal immediately following your workout, however, is not where you should be eating this type of food.
As far as the protein that you want to eat after you workout, you might want to find something that is highly digestible. The protein that you get from certain meats, such as chicken breasts or tuna is an excellent choice in many cases but not whenever you first finish your workout. Instead of making your body digest these difficult foods in order to obtain the protein, try having a post workout nutrition shake that is made from whey protein. This will allow your body to assimilate it quickly and effectively. The same is also true with the carbohydrates that you’re going to eat after you finish your workout. You don’t want to make your body work any more than it has to in order to get these carbohydrates. Make it easy on your body and you will see the most results.
One of the most important parts of post workout nutrition is the timing. The meal that you eat before your workout will need to be about 60 to 90 minutes before you begin your exercise. After you are finished with your exercise, however, you want to make sure that you are getting that meal as quickly as possible. If at all possible, you should have your post workout shake within a few minutes after you finish exercising. You should make sure, however, that you are never waiting more than one hour if it is inconvenient for you to have your shake immediately. You can even carry the dry shake to the gym with you in a travel long and make your shake whenever you leave the gym.
